~ JACQUES AZAGURY ~
Jacques Azagury stands among the most distinguished couturiers of the 20th and 21st centuries. Azagury’s pulse-raising evening wear is the red carpet choice of many leading women ~ cut with an artist’s precision to create an exquisite silhouette which has become symbolic with British style, elegance and sophistication.
A British fashion designer, born in Morocco and Educated at London College of Fashion and St. Martins School of Art, Azagury stormed into the epicenter of London’s culture and style scene in the 1980s with the launch of his ‘New Romantics’ collection where he was discovered by famous and prestigious Brown’s boutique in London and snapped up by major stores such as Harvey Nichols, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York. It was not long before he was hailed by the press as one of London’s most exciting new designers.
In 1987, Jacques Azagury opened his flagship store in London’s trendy Knightsbridge district, specializing in women’s evening wear and attracting an international clientele. Since that time, Azagury has been hailed as one of the most prominent couture designers of our time and as well as having a huge following, has featured endlessly in all the most prestigious fashion magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Tatler and Harpers.
Today Azagury dresses some of the most glamorous women in the world ~ from BAFTA winners to Rock-Stars and International Royalty. He most famously helped transform Diana, Princess of Wales into an international eye-catching fashion icon. Looking back at the late Princess Diana, one can see Azagury’s influence on her fashion pogression, turning the shy princess into an alluring woman with dresses that made history ~ from his famous puff-skirt dresses from the mid-80s to sexier, sleeker silhouettes later. It is evident why he was her first port of call for any event. As Azagury reminisces: “Diana came to me when she wanted to let her dress do the talking. She called them statement dresses, outfits which would show she had grown comfortable with her womanly sexiness. Diana was nobody’s fool. She had long recognised the power of a ‘performance’ dress, one that was guaranteed to turn heads and grab headlines.”
As one of the dearest designers to Princess Diana's heart,
Jacques Azagury dressed Diana in a multitude of dresses, evening wear and ballgowns throughout her time and she wore his designs to endless functions, parties, events and balls.
